Berner Ltd has acquired Haltija Group Ltd and strengthened its position in the MedTech market

Berner Ltd has acquired Haltija Group Ltd, the leading actor in the assistive technology and service industry in Finland. With the acquisition, Berner further strengthens its role as a major player in the MedTech market, which is in line with the company’s strategy. The parties signed the agreement on 29 October 2021.

In recent years, Haltija has become the leading actor in the assistive technology and service industry in Finland. The acquisition supplements Berner’s existing MedTech product and service offering in accordance with the company’s growth strategy.

– This acquisition allows us to provide an even more versatile offering of MedTech products and services to our customers in the healthcare and care industries by bringing together the strong expertise of the personnel in both companies. This further strengthens our role in the market, Berner’s CEO Antti Korpiniemi says happily. Berner and Haltija also share a strong desire for high-quality customer and supplier cooperation and employee well-being.

The acquisition complements the product portfolio of the Berner Pro business unit, currently covering infection control, personal hygiene and surgical, personal protection, laboratory and professional cleaning products, among others.

Serving both consumers and professionals in the public and private sectors, Haltija offers assistive devices, medical supplies as well as orthoses and supports. The company’s turnover in 2020 was EUR 25.5 million, and it employed 120 people. Haltija was born in 2016 as a result of a merger between several family-owned companies. Sponsor Capital has been involved in the company’s operations from the beginning.

– Transferring under the ownership of a family-owned company is a natural next step for Haltija, as I feel that these two companies’ values align particularly well. It is also important to Haltija that its ownership remains in Finland. The acquisition provides Haltija with opportunities for sustainable and profitable growth and long-term development of our operations, Haltija’s CEO Leena Munter says.

– Haltija’s strength lies in its comprehensive expertise and versatile product range. Its growing customer base has strong trust in the company. I think this acquisition benefits the customers, Haltija’s personnel and the new owner alike, says Sponsor Capital’s Jussi Seppälä, Chairman of the Board at Haltija.

The acquisition plays an important role for both organic growth and Berner’s MedTech growth strategy, which is key to the company. Berner acquired the Swedish MedTech distributor Dolema AB earlier in 2021 and a majority stake in Suomen MediTuote Ltd in 2020.

The acquisition of Haltija does not affect the companies’ direct operations. The transaction still requires the approval of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.
