Imports and in-house manufacturing
The Industry business area of the Berner Group serves a wide range of industrial sectors internationally. The business area comprises Berner Ltd’s Berner Industries business unit and our subsidiaries the Chemigate Group, Berner Chemicals Ltd and Voda Nordic Ltd.
Our operations are built on two strong pillars. We import and sell a wide range of raw materials, additives and chemicals for use in the manufacturing industry and the infrastructure sector.
Through our own manufacturing, we produce, among other things, starch-based binders and adhesives, speciality chemicals, native potato starch, magnesium chemicals and water treatment chemicals. We serve a broad range of industrial sectors, including the paper and cardboard industry, the pulp industry, the water utilities sector, and other manufacturing industry and infrastructure construction.

Berner Industries
Berner Industries business unit at Berner Ltd sources products globally for its market area. We work with numerous domestic and international companies, as well as the public sector, in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Whether it is a matter of shiploads or smaller batches, we can help with chemical and raw material needs.
Raw materials and chemicals that are critical to operations need to be in the right place at the right time. At Berner Industries, we have long experience in delivering these to our customers. Our strong logistics expertise is complemented by local presence, our international networks, and local stocks of many important chemicals.
Our subsidiary,
the Chemigate Group
Chemigate is a company that manufactures and sells bio-based products, based on starch and other polysaccharides, for technical use. Its main customer base comprises the Nordic paper and cardboard industry. Speciality chemistry products are also sold further afield, as far as Asia. Its production facilities are located in Lapua, Mietoinen and Kaipiainen (Kouvola).
Finnamyl Ltd, part of the Chemigate Group, produces starch and starch potato products from Finnish potatoes in Kokemäki, for food and industrial use. Lapuan Peruna Ltd is also part of the Finnamyl Group, and its main product is potato starch, which is sold in Lapua to Chemigate Ltd, operating on the same factory site.
Our customers include the bioproduct and forest industry, the chemical industry, the food industry and the construction materials industry.
Our subsidiary
Berner Chemicals Ltd
Berner Chemicals manufactures magnesium chemicals at its Kokemäki plant for the needs of the forest industry, as well as for use as flame retardants, in metal precipitation, and in the purification of both flue gases and wastewater.
Through its own product and process development, the company invests strongly in the use of magnesium in circular economy solutions.
Our subsidiary
Voda Nordic Ltd
Voda Nordic focuses on water treatment chemicals for the water utilities sector and industry. The company has a liquid ferric chloride production facility in Raahe and a liquid ferric sulphate production facility in Kokkola.
Solid water treatment chemicals are delivered directly to customers from logistics terminals located across Finland.
