Product Development and Production
At Berner, we place great value on keeping our production in Finnish hands and on being able to provide employment, both directly and indirectly, in smaller communities as well.
Research and product development
Berner has had its own product development since the 1950s. The first product from our own research and development (R&D) was XZ’s hair care oil, which is still part of our range today.
Keeping strong expertise in Finland is important to us. Wherever possible, we use local raw materials and packaging materials in our product development and production.
The consumer products from our own production are developed by our R&D team in Helsinki and manufactured at our own production facilities in Heinävesi and Helsinki.
The Group has production in ten locations across Finland
Finnish production – Berner Ltd
At Berner Ltd’s factories in Heinävesi, we manufacture cosmetics and hygiene products, car care products, detergents and cleaning agents, and vinegars. Our best-known brands include XZ, LV, Herbina, Ainu, Oxygenol, Tummeli, Lasol, Korrek, Heti and the Rajamäki product family. With 50 employees at our factories, we are the largest private employer in the area. At our factory in Helsinki, we manufacture skin and hair care products, such as Atopik, BTB13, Murumuru and byRaili.
In Hamina, we have fertiliser production, and in Kouvola we have a logistics centre for finished products. At our factory in Ylöjärvi, we manufacture various protective products, such as protective covers for the imaging plates of dental X-ray devices.
Finnish production – subsidiaries
Our subsidiary Berner Chemicals Oy manufactures magnesium products in Kokemäki, for the needs of the pulp and paper industry, among others.
Chemigate Oy manufactures and sells modified starch-based binders and adhesives for technical use, mainly for the bioproduct and forest industries. The company has factories in Lapua, Kaipiainen (Kouvola) and Mietoinen. Chemigate’s subsidiary, the Finnamyl Group, comprises Finnamyl Oy and Lapuan Peruna Oy, which manufacture potato starch, among other products.
Our subsidiary Voda Nordic Oy specialises in water supply chemicals, producing liquid ferric chloride at its production facility in Raahe and ferrous sulphate in Kokkola.
