Ensuring responsibility in the supply chain

Ensuring responsibility across our global supply chain applies both to our current suppliers and to new, potential suppliers. We are committed to the continuous development of our responsible sourcing and to increasing its transparency.

Our main tools for ensuring and developing responsible sourcing are:

Supplier Code of Conduct (SCoC)
Supplier self-assessment questionnaire
Third-party amfori BSCI audits
EcoVadis sustainability assessments for suppliers

The Berner Group’s Supplier Code of Conduct (SCoC) is based on the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct. We require all our suppliers, in all our operating countries, to commit to the principles of the SCoC.

If the factory from which products or the raw materials we sell are purchased is located in a so-called risk country in terms of labour and human rights, the factory must have an approved social responsibility audit or certification. Berner has been a member of amfori BSCI since 2020. In addition to amfori BSCI audits, we also accept other social responsibility audits or certifications, such as SMETA/SEDEX and SA8000.

In 2024, the Berner Group joined EcoVadis, a provider of comprehensive sustainability assessments, in order to strengthen the assurance and development of sustainability also among suppliers other than those based in risk countries.

EcoVadis provides a comprehensive assessment of a company’s entire sustainability management system covering environmental issues, labour and human rights, ethical operating principles, and responsible procurement. The assessment is based on policies and principles, practical measures, and results. Its assessment criteria draw on international corporate responsibility standards, such as the principles of GRI, the UN Global Compact and the ILO, and the ISO 26000 standard on corporate responsibility.
