Meet Teemu Pitkänen, Director, Healthcare Nordic

Berner Medical has a new leader for its Healthcare business. On 1 September 2026, Teemu Pitkänen took on the role of Director, Healthcare Nordic, within our Healthcare and Laboratories business area. In his new role, Teemu sets the strategic direction and drives the profitable growth of Berner’s Healthcare business across our four Nordic markets: Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. He steps up from his previous position as Sales Manager for the surgery and respiratory care team in Finland, which he also continues to lead.

Teemu takes over the Healthcare business from Anna Älverstad, who moved on to become Director, Lab Nordic and Estonia in June 2026 and had continued to lead Healthcare in the meantime.

Teemu joined Berner three years ago, in March 2023, and knows the Healthcare business extremely well. He brings more than 17 years of experience in medical device sales and 14 years in leadership across the Nordics, including a previous role as country manager, along with a strong foundation in physiotherapy and an MBA in International Business Management. In his new role, he brings the four Nordic markets closer together, so customers get the same strong expertise and high-quality solutions wherever they are.

Staying close to the customer. Teemu thrives on the interesting product area, but above all on the people he meets: customers, colleagues, and principals.

A company that puts people first. Teemu values that Berner lets him shape the product portfolio, the strategy, and the company culture, and that the company acts on new ideas. At Berner, people come first, and that shows in our actions as much as in our words. Berner also opens real opportunities for personal growth and development. For customers, this means a partner that keeps improving and truly listens.

Responsibility that builds trust. Teemu puts sustainability to work above all in public tenders and when scouting new principals and product areas. Berner carries its Platinum level in the EcoVadis sustainability assessment, along with its environmental certification, with pride. Teemu sees that price has recently driven the wellbeing services counties’ public tenders more strongly than sustainability. He remains convinced, though, that sustainability, clear communication about it, and Berner’s long-term commitment will shape public tenders in our favour over time. Berner holds firm to high standards when selecting new principals, in line with its responsibility programme, and never chooses principals or products on price alone. Customers can therefore trust that Berner picks its solutions responsibly and with lasting quality in mind.

Protecting Tomorrow, together. Teemu lives Berner’s purpose, “Protecting Tomorrow”, every day. Berner’s stability and continuity, in an increasingly turbulent world, gives customers real value and strengthens their trust, and it shows: customers have moved their supply agreements to Berner.

“Long-term work and strategy serve us better than chasing quick wins through erratic moves,” he says.

Outside of work. Teemu spends his free time with his family and a wide range of sports. He shares his home with his wife, their two daughters, and the family’s miniature schnauzer, Hugo. His favourite sports are padel, climbing, and golf.
