We are now looking for an AI Developer to strengthen Berner’s team and bring AI solutions into practice. As an AI Developer, you will be responsible for the practical execution and delivery of strategic transformation initiatives using modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, automation, and software development. The primary goal of the role is to implement Berner’s AI initiatives: translating high-level objectives into concrete actions, technical solutions, and processes that are visible in daily work. As this is a newly established role, you will have a unique opportunity to shape how AI development is done at Berner.
The role is highly hands-on and execution-oriented. You will build solutions, deploy them into use, and solve everyday challenges together with business teams and other experts. This often involves developing tailored solutions using tools such as Python, databases, APIs, and language models, while always selecting the most appropriate and effective approach for each situation. You will work as part of the AI team and report to Head of AI & Analytics, Joona Honka. Under the leadership of Joona Honka, recognized among Finland’s top AI visionaries, Berner has become a frontrunner in applying AI at scale.
The role is located in Helsinki and you can work flexibly in a hybrid model, with approx. three-day weekly presence at the office. The role might require a few business trips per year. The employment is full-time and permanent, and the preferred start date is as soon as possible.
Role and responsibilities
- Designing, developing, and deploying AI and automation solutions as part of business development
- Translating high-level goals into practical technical implementations, tools, and operating models
- Building tailored solutions using technologies such as Python, databases, APIs, and language models
- Combining off-the-shelf tools and custom-built solutions appropriately based on each use case
- Improving processes, reducing manual work, and solving everyday problems using AI and automation
- Implementing solutions in practice in collaboration with business units, data, IT, and other stakeholders
- Identifying new technological opportunities and integrating them into Berner’s daily operations
Experience, skills and knowledge
Berner is looking for a software developer who leverages AI and brings new perspectives. To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Proven experience of delivering AI-driven solutions and projects into production
- Understanding of practical use of language models and AI solutions
- Proficiency in Python, databases, and APIs
- At least 5 years of experience in software development and ability to build and deploy working solutions
- Relevant education (e.g., computer science, software development)
- Fluency in English, Finnish is strongly beneficial
You should have solution-oriented, proactive, and hands-on mindset. You have an ability to evaluate when to build custom solutions versus use of off-the-shelf tools. Experience with automation, integrations, or cloud services is valued. Understanding maintainability, scalability, and usability of production solutions are seen as an asset.
